MAFTEL
started its dedicated Telecom Practice in the late 2005.
Over the years, the Practice has evolved into one of
the leading players in Pakistan, providing Telecom Solutions.
Maftel is very aware that revenue generation for the
Operator cannot begin until the site is on air and therefore
speed and quality of site completion, after CME acceptance,
is of prime importance. Maftel is well placed to maximize
the Telecom Implementation (TI) window and has invested
in all the appropriate tools, test equipment and resource
training.
Key Maftel attributes for Customer confidence
include:
Financial stability
• Professional, cost effective management
of subcontractor organizations.
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural and geographically
diverse environments
• Maftel is the one point of contact, reducing
multiple interfaces, improving
• Communications whilst increasing quality and
speed of delivery.
• Flexibility, capacity and capability to meet
peaks in operational demand
• Vendor certified and in-depth familiarity with
available technologies
• Vendor neutral with multi-vendor equipment competence
• Generic operating procedures
• Long term relationship partners
We have a qualified installation and commissioning team
trained and certified on most of vendors' equipment.
The Telecom Implementation Module maintains details
relating to the allocation and configuration of all
equipment associated with a Site.
Users can create a library of standard equipment configuration
templates and then use these templates to assign them
to a Site. Once assigned to a Site, you can customize
the equipment configuration to fit on-site requirements.
Our vast experience in providing end-to-end solutions
to the Telecom industry has helped us to successfully
map our competency, skills and expertise to the areas
of Telecom Infrastructure.

Drive Testing
(DT) & Optimization of GSM & CDMA Networks
DT OVERVIEW
INTRODUCTION
• Why we perform DT and
What is DT.
It’s for testing of different RF parameters required
by the customer in the coverage area and to determine
where coverage is not fine. It is to verify planning
requirement similarly to check network quality from
end user prospective and to analyze network problem.
• Types of DT.
a. Indoor.
b. Outdoor.
The category of outdoor DT is sub divided
into two types.
• Single site DT.
• Cluster Based DT (It is normally of 5 to 7 sites).
• Modes of DT.
a. Idle call test.
It is performed by keeping the test phone in idle mode.
b. Short call test.
In Short call test the test phone is in dedicated mode
multiple calls are made and duration of each call should
be from 30 to 45 seconds.
c. Long call test.
Long call test as the name suggests that test phone
here is also in dedicated mode and a single call is
made of long duration.
OVERVIEW OF DIFFERENT
TOOLS.
• Planning Tool (Asset, Atoll)
• Dimensioning Tool (Back hall,
Codes)
• Logging Tool/DT Tool (CNT,
CAIT, Pilot panorama, Probe, Tems, Nemo)
• Post processing Tool (Actix,
Genex assistant, Tems investigation)
• Spectrum analyzer (Tectonics,
HP, Acterna)
DT KIT.
• DT Tool software.
• Laptop with charger and a battery of good health.
• Handsets with charger.
• Vehicle.
• Car charger.
DT PARAMETERS.
Following are the DT parameters for CDMA
and GSM which we need to mention in
our DT report.
a. Rxlevel (CDMA/GSM).
It is the receiving level of the signal and its unit
is dBm. Best range of Rxlevel CDMA is from -70dBm
to -95dBm and for GSM is from
-40dBm to -60dBm.
b. Txlevel (CDMA).
It is the transmit level of the signal its unit is also
dBm
Maximum value is from -21dBm to -23dBm.
Basically Rx and
Tx are vice versa because of close loop power
control.
c. RxQuality (GSM).
Best range of RxQuality is from -40dBm to -60dBm.It
is to determine the call quality of the network.
d. Ec/Io (CDMA).
Ec stands for energy of the chip and Io stands
for interface its unit is dB. Lower the value of Ec/Io
bad will be the quality. Value of Ec/Io is considered
to be fine from -2dB to -10dB
e. PN Graph (CDMA/GSM).
PN graph shows the coverage area of the particular sector
of the site.
f. FER (CDMA/GSM).
FER stands for Frame Error Rate. It
is evaluated in percentage. If the value of FER is above
than 5 percent then we can say that
there is some problem in the network.
g. HANDOFFS (CDMA/GSM).
In DT we monitor handoffs also.
h. SQI (GSM)
SQI stands for Speech Quality Index it is observed during
our dedicated mode.
Events in DT.
Basic events in DT are,
• Call drop.
• GPS Disconnected.
• Phone disconnected.
• Handoffs.
Precautions kept in consideration.
• Laptop should be fully
charged.
• All the required software should
be working fine.
• Enough space in hard drive.
• Phone sets should be fully charged.
• All the connectivity cables should
be in working condition.
• Enough credit for the DT.
• Vehicle should have enough fuel
to perform DT.
• Drive route should be clear.
• Sites in the selected cluster should
be in working position.

Competitive Advantage of MAFTEL
Telecom Services
- Single point of contact for site acquisition,
engineering, construction, network services. Single
point of accountability translates into cost effective
solutions, streamlined schedule, greater reliability,
flexibility and quality
- Efficiencies of Acquisition, Design
and Build being under the same roof:
- Control of design and drawing issues
in relation to program.
- Build ability aspects of each site
are considered at the earliest stage.
- Close interface between acquisition,
design, and construction from the outset, ensures
that the site design meets the requirements of the
local Planning Authorities and Operator to reduce
the risk of delays and/or rejected proposals.
- Construction feasibility aspects of
each site are investigated and considered at the earliest
possible stage resulting in lower cost budgets for
the Operator.
- Early interaction ensures detailed drawings are
produced without the need for further information
or amendments.
- Interaction from the outset will allow
for economic solutions to be developed.
- Partnering of acquisition, engineering
and construction in order to work as a team.
- Ease of arranging acquisition, design
and construction visits at site identification stage
to increase the success rate of the site.
- Fully documented design quality system.
• Health & Safety:
Safety is regarded as one of our Key Performance Indicators
(KPI’s). Our Safety Department has overall responsibility
for safety within our organization. We have full-time
professionally qualified Safety Managers who report
directly to the Safety Director. Since its inception,
MAFTEL has maintained an excellent safety record.
• Environmental Management
System: We recognize that, while the end product
of its activities should enhance the quality of the
environment, the build out process itself, and the materials
used, have a potential impact on the environment. We
have developed an Environmental Management System with
the aim of minimizing the impact of its activities on
the environment. This Environmental Policy is reviewed
annually.
• Quality Assurance:
Our employees work to get it right the first time and
have a positive commitment to quality and the ability
to respond quickly and effectively to changing environments.
Quality will be effectively managed through:
- Process and procedures
- Requirements and responsibilities
defined early
- Continuous quality control
- Regular feedback and reaction
- Random but specific assessments
or audits
